We sweep our site every month before we set up but we've never seen a pile this dense or knee-high before. Every oak leaf in Stirling was there! We're happy to announce that, as much as we love a We're happy to announce that, as much as we love autumn in Hahndorf and the glorious colours it creates, the last of the leaves on the plane tree outside our shop have fallen! With the crazy weather we've had this season, we've been raking up leaves and using our leaf blower for at least 30 minutes every morning since February! Imagine that!  The leaves are very picturesque but they're very slippery, wet or dry, in large quantities. They also block our gutters.  I tested my theory that some were the size of dinner plates, and I was right! Sorry for the late notice, but our 'Imagine The Pa Sorry for the late notice, but our 'Imagine The Past' event - where we bake bread in our 19th century corbelled bake oven - is going ahead tomorrow! There was a grass fire on the edge of Hahndorf today near The Cedars (now contained, thanks to the CFS) and we weren't sure if we'd be allowed to run our event, but we've met the safety requirements so we'll fire up the oven at the crack of dawn and bake beautiful, fresh bread for all of our visitors! The Schmidt-Rodert Hof (where our shop is) is the oldest surviving Prussian farm complex in Hahndorf. Experience the drama of baking day, taste some wood oven bread with jam and cream, and explore the historic buildings dating back to 1841. This event is being run by the Hahndorf Branch of the National Trust. Admission is free but a donation to the Trust would be appreciated. Joanne and Craig decided that the green pastures of the Mid Murray region (though no doubt needing some rain, like the rest of SA) would be a wonderful home for it. Craig collected it in his ute, and when we asked if he'd like us to lie it down on its side he said 'Nah, I want it standing up, like it's in a parade!'. We're still cracking up over this!
